Why Web Feed?

March 30, 2011

web feed syndication (mostly known as RSS 2.0) is an underlying technology for social media platforms and almost anything else you can find in current socially-friendly web environment. When we talk about live feeds, news feeds, podcasts or videocasts, bookmarks or numerous content sharing tools, we essentially refer to different types and formats and uses of web feeds.

RSS 2.0 is a most popular and simple version of RSS, but not the most flexible one. If you want to add some extra flavor and customization, you might need to create the feed yourself.
In this case you should go with either Atom or RSS 1.0.
Yet RSS 1.0 provides the ability not only to utilize existing RSS modules, but also to create your own. Add the compatibility with RDF, and you get an extended functionality of the feed which could be useful for inclusion of custom elements. RSS2.0 on another hand is still pretty rigid, though you can find flexibility within extensions defined with XML Namespaces.

Though RSS feed could be read in XML format, this format is not considered human-friendly. It’s usually parsed by various desktop and web software programs known as RSS readers and is displayed in a human-friendly user interface such as the one provided by web aggregators and desktop readers.

it will be difficult to succeed in SEO without paying proper attention to social media signals. In fact, social media signals are so important that we witness a birth of a new kind of SEO servicesSocial SEO.

Social authority, which is otherwise called a social rank, plays increasingly important role not only in a social search, it affects the SERPS ranking in regular organic search too. I have references from both Google and Bing to prove it. Before talking about human authority as a new SEO signal, let’s take a look at some other factors that demonstrate the importance of social media influence in SEO game.

Social Rank or Human Rank is the calculation of individual authority in social networks, and it calculates how influential and trustworthy a person is. If a person found to be an authority, the links that s/he tweets from his/her twitter account, have additional weight. Not only in social search, but in regular organic search as well!

…the majority of top keywords are not related to super-cool gadgets and uber-hot cars. Those top searches are related to people and social networks.

… 7 out of 10 top searches are related to people searches and social networks, yet again. I don’t divide people-related searches and searches for social networks, because social networks are nothing more and nothing less than different ways for people to communicate with each other…

There are thousands of social networks, and soon there will be millions of them. And each has its own face, each one could be considred a “person” in its own right…

this particular type of searches takes a huge share of any search pie. And of course there are many companies that gladly take a piece of this lucrative action..

One company… gives people (for free) their own small “search engines” targeting different people-related search queries, with 9 built-in income streams.

If you want one of those, you can grab it here: Your Own People Search Engine.

…the right and wrong way to write a comment, and why it’s beneficial for a blog visitor to spend a few extra minutes to write a content-rich comment…
Why would you want to write a blog comment, and why spammers spend thousands of dollars on different blog spamming scripts?

There are three main reasons:

1) Quick Site Indexing and Link Discovery
2) High Quality Targeted Web Traffic
3) Potential Benefit of a One-Way Link from the Authority Blog.
